In recent years, staking has become more popular due to the rise of staking services, pooled staking, and liquid re-staking. As of July 2024, Ethereum’s security budget stands at $110 billion worth of ETH, about 28% of the total ETH supply. Staking features are also commonly adopted within exchanges and financial applications, allowing people to contribute their ETH to securing the Ethereum network. Many see staking as a low-risk investment return, making it attractive to ETH holders. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has staked some of his ETH, but has not yet staked some.
