A look at companies making headlines in midday trading: Chewy, GameStop — Shares of Chewy fell 6.6% after a regulatory filing showed that meme stock trader Keith Gill (aka Roaring Kitty) bought 9 million shares of the pet food e-commerce company, giving him a 6.6% stake. His other major holding, GameStop, fell 5.5%. It’s unclear if he sold GameStop shares to buy Chewy. Boeing, Spirit AeroSystems — Boeing said Monday it would buy back aircraft maker Spirit AeroSystems in an all-stock deal for $4.7 billion. Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems shares rose about 2.6% and 3.4%, respectively. Trump Media & Technology Group — Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group rose 3% after falling about 11% in Friday trading. Stocks are fresh off a choppy session following the first presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump ahead of the November presidential election. Birkenstock — The shoe maker rose about 1.8% after UBS upgraded its rating to buy from neutral. UBS pointed to rising average selling prices and growth in Asian markets as reasons for optimism. NIO — Chinese electric vehicle shares rose 6.7% on Monday after the company said vehicle deliveries rose nearly 100% in June. NIO said it delivered 21,209 vehicles last month, up 98% from a year ago. Tesla — The electric vehicle stock surged 6%. Tesla is due to report second-quarter delivery numbers this week. Floor & Decor Holdings — Floor & Decor shares fell about 4% after Spruce Point Capital Management released a short report citing concerns about the credibility of management and the board. The report also revealed concerns about the company’s strategy and the accuracy of its financial reporting. NextEra Energy Partners — The renewable energy stock fell about 8.8%. Royal Bank of Canada downgraded NextEra Energy Partners to sector perform from outperform, noting the company’s road ahead is “challenging.” Cruise Stocks — Cruise company shares fell as Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Grenada as a Category 4 storm. Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival fell about 6% and 5.4%, respectively, while Royal Caribbean was down about 2%. — CNBC’s Jesse Pound, Michelle Fox, Alex Harring, Sarah Min and Hakyung Kim reported.
